In ancient times of King Alexander the Great, the Rann of Kutch was a part of the Arabian Sea. An earthquake turned the exposed seabed into a salty desert. In the rainy season, the Rann is submerged in sea water. The salty water receded in October making The Rann of Kutch ready for the tourists.
Where is the Rann of Kutch located?
The Great Rann of Kutch is in Kutch district of India and southern Pakistan. The northern boundary of this run is the border of India and Pakistan. Rann has two parts- Great Rann of Kutch in the Thar Desert and Little Rann of Kutch near the Great Rann of Kutch.
Best time to go to the Rann of Kutch
During the monsoons the Great Rann of Kutch is covered in water. In October, it starts drying up transforming into a vast, sparkling masterpiece of nature that attracts tourists from world over. The tourist season is from November to March. It is very hot in April and May these months though holidays should be avoided.
